Use
This controller model must be used in combination with the micro-wind turbine model. It is required to control the electrical power which is produced by the generator. The rotational speed of a generator depends on the acceleration, friction and electrical torque which is controlled by the electric energy converter.
Parameters and Connectors

The only required input connector for the controller model is the ▶nGEN, which has to be set externally and can be a variable or a constant rotational speed. ▶tauRef must be connected to the micro-wind turbine model.

The nominal parameters that must be set for the generator (rotational speed nGENnominal and torque MGENnominal) should ideally be set to the value from the corresponding micro-wind turbine model. The same applies to the nominal values of the reference generators nGENRef and mGENRef.

To enable the power regulation mode, the optimal trajectory determining optimal system efficiency MOptimalTable in MOptimalFile must be specified (see for more information. The file can be found in the model data directory (not visible in SimulationX). If different reference generators should be used for system simulation, the associated trajectory file MOptimalFile must be adapted. Therefore, the data file in the model data directory should be used as a template. To avoid numerical instabilities the maximum and minimum rotational speed of the reference generator nGENRefMin and nGENRefMax has to be defined.
Model Background
Optimal System Efficiency Trajectory
To reduce the model complexity and ultimately simulation time the complex dynamics of the electric energy conversion where neglected in the micro wind-turbine. This however results in and additional degree of freedom due to the electric torque not being calculable using a deterministic approach. To address this an optimal trajectory in the efficiency characteristic diagram (see micro-wind turbine model), of the selected reference generator was defined which determines the optimal electrical torque dependent on the generator speed. This ensures that the maximum electrical power output is produced, at any given generator speed. Real-world wind-turbine controllers regulate electrical torque (generator current) to define the optimum electrical power output without knowing the efficiency characteristics of the controlled generator. Here the measured voltage and current output are used for power regulation. To reduce system and simulation complexity these complex control algorithms are not included in the model.
