Use

The model wind power plant maps a wind turbine. It generates electric power based on the current wind speed and the nominal power of the plant.

The power calculation considers height-dependent and wind speed degradation (i.e. wind characteristics dependent on distance from the ground). Therefore, the ▶EnvironmentConditions have to be connected. The electric power can be feed in a grid (default ▶MVGrid). The type of the grid can be changed via the VoltageType parameter. Also the power factor CosPhi has to be adapted.

The decisive parameters for the wind turbine are firstly the etaWind curve, which is limited by the minimum (vMin) and maximum wind speed (vMax). Secondly, the nominal output of the wind turbine (PNom) and its height (hHub).

Also, the TerrainType of the surrounding terrain influences the electrical power output.

Model Background

Here, "gTerrain" is the roughness coefficient of the surrounding terrain. The greater the roughness coefficient gTerrain, the more the wind speed reduces, near the ground. The following example values can be applied:

  • Open Terrain: g = 0.16

  • Terrain with small Obstacles up to 15 m: g = 0.28

  • Terrain with high Obstacles: g = 0.40

The velocity WindSpeed, in the equation, represents the wind speed supplied by the models AmbientConditions-Port. This value is the wind speed at a height of 10 m.

The final calculation of the generated electrical power uses a static curve (etaWind) which defines the wind speed dependent efficiency of the wind power plant.
